The Art of Singing IVC Masterclass in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, 2023
The famous Dutch singing pedagogue Margreet Honig will share her profound technical knowledge and her long life experience of teaching young singers with both young artists and pedagogues. For the first time, the International Vocal Competition ‘s-Hertogenbosch is organizing a masterclass week that also targets vocal coaches. Singers and vocal coaches can still apply and the public can attend public events from 2 to 5 March at the Willem Twee Toonzaal in 's-Hertogenbosch.
What does a vocal coach need to know and why? The Netherlands is home to legendary vocal pedagogue Margreet Honig, who works frequently with many well-known singers (including Elina Garança, Thomas Oliemans and Ian Bostridge). The masterclass week will be led by her, together with countertenor Andrew Watts (also pedagogue at the renowned Guildhall School of Music in London) and Rosemary Joshua (artistic director of The National Opera Studio and jury member of the ARIA television programme). During this week, they will share their experience and vision with six vocal pedagogues who in turn work with 12 vocal students. Normally, Margreet Honig works behind closed doors, but during this week you can literally take a look behind the scenes of the singing world.
On Thursday evening 2 March, you can experience a unique lesson in which Margreet Honig observes and comments on how singing teachers work with young singers. On Friday evening 3 March, there will be a public masterclass with countertenor Andrew Watts and on Saturday evening 4 March, soprano Rosemary Joshua will be working with four young singers in a public masterclass. On Sunday afternoon, 5 March, you can hear the results of the work of 12 young singers with works by Mozart, Handel and classical German and French Lied. Accompanying pianists are former IVC finalists Hikaru Kanki, Sara Pavlovic and Ian Tindale.
More information for pedagogues and singers about this Art of Singing IVC masterclass week, including repertoire requirements and participation fees, can be found on the IVC website.
As a listener, there is also value in attending the evening sessions, which are open to the public. If you would like to come and listen, please refer to the Willem Twee Toonzaal for ticket sales.
